Kathmandu/Cricnepal: Cricket Association of Nepal(CAN) on Monday organized a victory parade in recognition of the ACC Trophy Elite winners Nepali Cricket Team.
The parade ended in a bad note after the fans demonstrated against the poor management. The parade which began from Hotel Crown Plaza, Naxal ended at National Sports Council (NSC) office premise following the route Jai Nepal Cinema Hall – Narayanhiti – Ratnapark – Bagbazar – Putali Sadak – Ramshah Path – Bhriutimandap – Bhadrakali – Shahidgate – Tripureshwor.
Hundreds of fans, medias, well wishers were accompanied by traditional “Panche Baja” with the players being taken in truck. However, the worst part was, the president of CAN Tanka Angbuhang and some of the other officials did not attend the event.
Slogans and chantings were made by the fans who accompanied the team throughout the parade while the atmosphere of the city turned to jubilant as thousands of people at the streets were seen waving their hands to the players and sharing their congratulations message.
But the chanting all turned into a small protest immediately after the host addressed the team as the winner of the ACC Trophy Elite held in Malaysia; Dubai. The management seem really poor as there was not even sufficient seats for the players, neither microphone nor any banners.
The fans demanded the resignation of Tanka Angbuhang. They also shouted against NSC. Addressing the fans, NSC treasurer Indra Thing apologized with the fans and said he was unaware of the event and would organize an honoring ceremony soon.
Paras Khadka, speaking to the fans said, he was very happy with the parade but the ending was mismanaged. We should take it in a positive way. Time has come, everyone should think of Nepali Cricket and we can do a lot better, he added.
On Saturday, CAN had announced to reward the players with Rs. 30,000 each. Nepal was the joint winner of the ACC Trophy Elite that was held in UAE along with the host itself. This is Nepal’s second title in a span of a month.
