National Cricket Academy opens

Cricnepal/Kathmandu: Cricket Association of Nepal(CAN) on Tuesday formally opened National Cricket Academy(NCA), a long awaited project at the TU Cricket Ground, Kirtipur.

The National Coach Pubudu Dassanayake’s proposed project was today inaugurated by member secretary of National Sports Council(NSC), Yuvaraj Lama. Speaking in the function Lama said NSC is ready for any sort of help needed. NSC is happy with the opening of Academy, he added.

The National team, Nepal A squad, Nepal U-19 and National Women’s team would be coached by Dassanayake while CAN has appointed Jagat Tamata and former national captain and current senior team member Binod Das as assistant coaches.

According to Dassanayake, NCA will launch programs for Under 12 category soon. Speacial training program would be launched with a basic target of providing the regular training, said Dassanayake. He also added that more special training programs would be launched in future with providing focus on techniques, fitness and physical condition and the use of technology would be made. Reaman Siwakoti will work as data and video analyst at NCA. Batting, Bowling and Fielding coaches would be appointed with which the player can focus on specific department, he added.

Dassanayake also said that CAN will try to extend NCA to other parts of the country.

Dassanayake also explained on how the test nations have made the use of National Cricket Academy and made progress so far. NCA will provide regular training facilities, rehabilitation and psychological counseling to players,” he added.

National team captain Paras Khadka who was also present in the event, expressing happiness said that the academy would help on bringing new talents and encourage more youths to the game.

Meanwhile, CAN President Tanka Angbuhang said that the current NCA would be financed by CAN. We will be searching the sponsorship in future. This academy hopes to bring a great change in Nepali Cricket, maybe not quick but not so late, he added.
