Pokahara reached the finals of the U-19 National Cricket Tournament beating defending Champion Biratnagar by 28 runs today at the Tribhuwan University Ground. This is the first time that the Region No. 8 has reached the finals of the any national tournament under Cricket Association of Nepal.
Pokhara, riding on collective batting effort from thier batsman posted 173 runs before being all out in 47 overs. There were as many as four batsman who got out in the 20s. Sushel Kandel top scored for Pokhara with 29 runs. Aaskash Thapa 22, Khem Raj Poudel 21 and Sudip Poudel 20 were the others who scored in the 20s. Firdosh Ansari got three wickets for Biratnagar while Heman Rai and Menas Thapa also grabbed two each.
In reply, Rimesh Regmi’s 46 off 94 balls was not enough for the defending champion as they were packed up for 145 runs in the second last ball of the 45th over against hostile bowling line up of Pokhara. Santosh Upadhaya got a fifer for Pokhara. Mukund Yadav scored 28 runs and Lokesh Jha scored 18 but they couldn’t saw their team get through the finals. Sushil Kandel and Bipin Khatri also got 2 wickets each for Pokhara.
Pokhara will meet the winner of Bhairahawa and Baitadi in the finals on Friday.
