Malaysia to host ICC U19 Cricket World Cup Qualifier

Melbourne – International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the tournament dates for the upcoming ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2015 to take place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Earlier, the U19 World Cup Qualifier was scheduled to be in Nepal, but due to the massive earthquake that devastated the country, ICC relocated the event to Malaysian capital.

“Due to the tragic events in Nepal in recent months, coupled with the infrastructure damage caused by the earthquakes and the ongoing relief operations, it has been decided that it would be better to relocate the tournament from Kathmandu”, ICC Chief Executive David Richardson said.

“Thankfully, the Malaysian Cricket Association has offered to host the tournament, and, based on previous experience including the successful hosting of the ICC WCL Division 3 last year on short notice, we anticipate a successful event in Kuala Lumpur”, he further added.

The decision was made following discussions with Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN).

The tournament will feature five nations viz. Ireland, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, Uganda and USA and will take place from 14 to 23 October 2015.

Nepal was selected in the Qualifiers after being the runner-up in 2014 ACC Under-19 Premier League. The sixteen nations U19 World Cup will take place in Bangladesh next year. The fifteen nations who are already selected are Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, Namibia, Canada, Fiji and Scotland.
