India U19 defeated Nepal by six wickets in the ongoing ACC Youth Asia Cup 2016 at Colombo Cricket Ground on Friday.
Nepal posted a modest total of 172/9 in their 50 overs, after winning the toss. The openers, Sandeep Sunar (7) & Aasif Sheikh (18) had a promising start today but failed to capitalise. Sunar failed in 11th over and the mini-collapse took the score from 36/0 to 51/5 in 17.3 overs.
The hero of thursday’s match against Sri Lanka, Dipendra Singh Airee continued his good form with valuable 34 runs. His innings included four boundaries but Nepal saw another promising youngster – Rohit Kumar Paudel. He top scored for Nepal with a 93-ball 68 runs, including seven fours and two sixes.
At 43rd overs, Nepal were reduced to 134/9 but a valuable tenth wicket partnership between Rohit and Nandan Yadav took the score to a respectable total. Rohit hammered Pacer Kamlesh Nagarkoti for 24 runs in the final over smashing three boundaries and two sixes.
Rahul Chahar was pick of the Bowlers for India U19 as he achieved a fifer (5-27) in his 10 overs.
In reply, India lost their opener Prithvi Shaw (5) early but a 86 runs partnership between Himanshu Rana and Shubmam Gill helped to reach the target quite comfortably in 33.3 overs. Gill top scored with 63-ball 57 runs while Rana made a well compiled 51 runs(61 balls).
Pawan Sharraf grabbed three wickets (6-0-43-3) for Nepal. With two consecutive loses, Nepal’s chances for next round is almost over. India and Sri Lanka from Group A have entered the semi-finals.
Nepal will play their last group match against Malaysia U19 on December 18 at Nondescripts Cricket Club.
