Melbourne – Nepal crumbled to 94 all out in their seventh match of ICC World Cricket League Championship against Netherlands and was thrashed by 7 wickets at VRA Ground, Amstelveen on Saturday.
Netherlands, who chose to field first restricted Nepal to 94 in 38.1 overs. Thanks to Pace bowler Timm van der Gugten and chinaman bowler Michael Rippon’s three-for along with Roelof van der Merwe’s two wickets to thrash the visitors.
The openers, Gyanendra Malla (11) and Anil Mandal (20) had a good little 23 runs partnership but two wickets in two balls from Roelof van der Merwe in 13th over, pushed Nepal to backfoot. Skipper Paras Khadka was one of the victims and made a first ball duck. Then, the middle order collapse made it difficult to overcome for Nepal.
Sagar Pun (7), Raju Rijal(3) and Binod Bhandari (9) gifted their wickets easily.
It was Raju Rijal’s second List A game for Nepal and as soon as he has been promoted to the senior team, his performance with both bat and keeping has been a raising mark.
At 28.1 overs, Nepal were 74/6 and all hopes were on Sharad Vesawkar who was solid in defence at the other end. But, he was unfortunate to get an edge while flicking the ball on his pads and lost his wicket for 14 off 71 balls, that too without a boundary.
Sompal Kami (12) was the third highest scorer for Nepal.
FOW 1-23 (Malla, 4.2 ov), 2-38 (Mandal, 12.3 ov), 3-38 (Khadka, 12.4 ov), 4-57 (Sagar Pun, 22.4 ov), 5-62 (Rijal, 23.2 ov), 6-74 (Bhandari, 28.1 ov), 7-80 (Vesawkar, 31.1 ov), 8-93 (Sompal Kami, 37.1 ov), 9-93 (Karan KC, 37.3 ov), 10-94 (Lamichhane, 38.1 ov)
In reply, Netherlands lost their opener – Micheal Rippon (6) in third over. He was caught at point off Karan KC’s bowling. The second wicket partnership of 57 runs between Barresi and SJ Myburgh took the score to 70 runs in 13th over. Baressi was bowled by Basant Regmi for 37 runs.
Without any further hiccups, Netherlands successfully chased down the 95 runs target in 16.5 overs. They cruised the 95 runs chase with 199 balls remaining and it earned 2 more points.
Currently, the Dutch side are undefeated in ICC World Cricket League Championship and sitting at top of the table while Nepal is at the sixth position.
Both teams will face again on Monday at the same venue.
