A brilliant all-round effort helped Nepal U19 thrash Oman by 150 runs in the 12th match of the ongoing ICC U19 Cricket World Cup Asia Qualifier 2019 played at Selangor Turf Club today.
Nepal put 229 runs on the board after Oman U19 chose to field. Despite losing wickets at a regular interval, Skipper Rohit Kumar Paudel and Bhim Sharki made sure they put a fighting total. At one stage, Nepal lost half of their side for 81 runs inside 20 overs. Thanks to the 92 runs partnership between Paudel and Sharki for the sixth wicket that helped the lower order to play their natural game today.
Rohit hit 5 boundaries and 2 sixes in his innings of 75 runs from 81 runs while Bhim Sharki smashed 43 balls 39 that included 2 fours and a six. But it was debutant Pratis GC’s inning that changed the course of the match. His quick-fire 41 runs off 23 balls helped Nepal to reach 229 in 43.2 overs with 4 sixes and two boundaries.
In reply, Oman U19 were put on backfoot straightway as Nepali bowlers kept on picking wickets in regular interval. Their side slipped down to 35 for 5 in 21 overs and later bowled out for 79 in 44.1 overs. Only their two batters were able to convert in the two-digit figure.
Oman’s tailender AS Sirah and JY Tanna made 13 runs each, playing 45 and 53 deliveries respectively.
Pawan Sarraf was once again proved to be the best bowler as he picked three wickets giving away 24 runs in his ten overs. Pratis GC (7.1-1-13-2) and Surya Tamang (9-4-11-2) shared two wickets apiece. Tamang had four maiden overs and gave away 11 runs only. Kushal Malla was economical (10-2-12-1) and had one dismissal. Bhim Sharki and Kamal Singh Airee had one each as well.
With three wins from four games, Nepal U19 team is still sitting at the second position on the table. UAE U19 tops the chart with four wins.
Nepal will play their last game against Kuwait U19 team on Thursday, April 18. But Nepal will wait for UAE’s match against Oman on the same day.
