Bhutan register historic T20I win

Bhutan National Cricket Team registered their first T20 International win on Monday, defeating the Maldives by 6 runs at YSD UKM Oval in the ongoing Quadrangular series.

Bhutan restricted the Maldives to 104 runs after posting 110 runs in the first inning. Jigme Singye and Namgay Thinley picked up three wickets each for Bhutan to bag the historic triumph for the country. Mohamed Rishwan scored 19 runs for Maldives whereas Yoosuf Azyan Farhath and Mohamed Azzam added sluggish 17 and 15 runs respectively.

Earlier in the first inning, Invited to bat first, Bhutan were able to post an average total of 110 runs. Namgay Thinley and Gakul Kumar Ghalley topped the score chart with 17 each run. Thinley Jamtsho smacked 8 balls 16 whereas Namgang Chojay and Ngawang Thinley contributed 13 and 11 runs respectively.

Yoosuf Azyan Farhath picked up 3 wickets for Maldives whilst Adam Nasif Umar, Ibrahim Rizan, and Ahmed Hassan grabbed a couple of wickets each.

Namgay Thinley was adjudged as player of the match for his brilliant all-around performance.

This was Bhutan’s fifth T20I match after debuting against Nepal in the 13th South Asian Games (SAG) in 2019.

Malaysia is at the top of the table with six points from three games in the four-nation T20I series. Maldives is in second place with two points from two games while Bhutan is in third place with two defeats and one win in three games. Thailand is at the bottom with yet to grab a point from a couple of games.
